RAMQ amends drug coverage
–
The Régie de l’assurance-maladie du Québec (RAMQ) reviewed
and adjusted the Basic Prescription Drug Insurance Plan
effective July 1, 2007 as follows:
·
The minimum co-insurance for RAMQ formulary drugs that must
be covered by private plans decreased to 70 per cent from 71
per cent.
·
The annual out-of-pocket maximum for RAMQ
formulary drugs increased
to $904 from $881.
·
The monthly deductible increased to $14.10 from $12.10.
·
The annual premium that Quebec residents must pay for RAMQ
coverage increased to $557 from
$538.
The changes
have minimal impact on a plan’s experience, since the change
in out-of-pocket maximum was very small.
Quebec pharmaceutical strategy
–
In February 2007, the Quebec government introduced
its new pharmaceutical strategy, which is expected
to
be implemented over a three-year period. The strategy
has four main
components:
·
Establishment of fair and reasonable drug prices
·
Access to drugs
·
Optimal drug use
·
Maintenance of a thriving biopharmaceutical industry in
Quebec
